Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Sani, for allegedly attempting to smuggle live ammunition concealed inside a palm oil container.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, noting that Sani was caught by officers of the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad during an operation along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway on December 23, 2024.
“She was found in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition of different calibres, which were hidden in a five-litre container of palm oil,” Adejobi stated. “Upon interrogation, she confessed that she was directed by one Nasiru from Daura to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State.”
The police further revealed that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
In a separate operation on February 1, 2025, police operatives arrested three individuals suspected of trafficking hard drugs meant for criminals in Yobe State.
The suspects, identified as 50-year-old Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 27-year-old Joseph Matthew, and 25-year-old Solomon Bala, were intercepted while transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other controlled substances.
“These drugs were allegedly intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating within Yobe and neighbouring regions,” Adejobi disclosed.
Further intensifying its crackdown on criminal activities, the police also dismantled an arms smuggling syndicate on February 3, 2025.
Three suspects—Yusuf Dantani, 24; Usman Labaran, 32; and Musa Mohammed, 23—were arrested in possession of 10 AK-47 rifles.
According to the police, the suspects confessed to being involved in the illegal arms trade, revealing that they had received nearly N4 million for their most recent transaction.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety,” Adejobi emphasized. “We urge citizens to assist security agencies by providing timely and accurate information that can help prevent crime.”
The police assured the public that all suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
