A 30-year-old accountant, Eugene Amo-Dadzie, aged 30, has made history to become the fourth fastest British sprinter in history with a time of 9.93 seconds.
Dadzie who took up athletics at the age of 26 made the feat at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze.
Amo-Dadzie began seriously training for sprints at the age of 26, which was a somewhat late start in his athletic career. He continued working full-time as a senior chartered accountant at The Berkeley Group, a housing and community development firm in London, while making his debut for the United Kingdom at the 2023 European Championships in Istanbul last March.
It is unclear how much longer Amo-Dadzie will pursue a full-time accounting job given his impressive time of 9.93 seconds. His run has undoubtedly drawn attention because it is far slower than the 10.00-second threshold needed to automatically qualify for the 100-meter world championship.
Amo-Dadzie acknowledges that his journey is unique, but his aim is to inspire others to pursue their passions both on and off the track.
He wants to show that with dedication and perseverance, one can strive for their dreams. “In life, sometimes you think you haven’t got enough time, and I’m just here to prove that you can go for your dreams”.
