A violent clash between Hausa and Fulani communities in Gidan Na Ruwa Fulani Settlement, Taura Local Government Area, Jigawa State, resulted in the destruction of 24 thatched houses and 16 granaries on Sunday night.
The state police command confirmed the incident, revealing that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the crisis.
According to The PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the violence erupted after two individuals from Zangon Maje Village, identified as Musa Hussaini and Shanu Sule, were assaulted and had their motorcycle stolen.
The attack led to an outcry in the village, prompting a group of youths to retaliate by storming the settlement and setting properties ablaze.
“The youths, allegedly seeking revenge, descended on the settlement, setting fire to houses and granaries,” Adam stated.
In response to the escalating situation, the Divisional Police Officer of Taura and his patrol team swiftly intervened, restoring order and intensifying patrols to prevent further unrest.
“The command has arrested five suspects who are currently assisting with investigations,” Adam added, emphasizing that law enforcement authorities will ensure those responsible face justice.
He cautioned residents against resorting to self-help in disputes, urging them to seek redress through appropriate legal channels.
“Citizens are advised to direct their complaints to the appropriate authorities for a timely and prompt response. Anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” Adam warned.
The police command reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order across the state.
