The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended three individuals linked to a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, following their alleged involvement in the murder of a 19-year-old over a financial dispute.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Dutse on Saturday, stating that the suspects were taken into custody on February 8, 2025, in Illela, Sokoto State.
The suspects—Malam Adamu Aliyu, 30; Malam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, 37; and Malam Nafiu Ibrahim, 80—are from Hadejia, Auyo, and Miga Local Government Areas of Jigawa State. According to the police, they conspired to defraud Ahmad Abdullahi of ₦400,000 before luring him to a riverside in Hadejia town. When the victim demanded his money, they allegedly strangled him and disposed of his body in the river.
SP Shiisu disclosed that the suspects initially fled to the Niger Republic but were tracked and returned to Jigawa.
“The case has been charged to court, and we assure the public that justice will be served,” he said.
In another operation, the police arrested 18-year-old Ahmed Habibu for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth ₦600,000. He was apprehended on February 24, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered.
Similarly, 30-year-old Manniru Yusuf was arrested for an attempted homicide. Yusuf reportedly tried to shoot 50-year-old Ramma Sule with a locally made pistol, accusing her of causing his daughter’s illness. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation.
Meanwhile, police operatives intercepted suspected armed robbers in Bariki Quarters, Hadejia. The suspects managed to flee but left behind two locally made rifles, three live AK-47 rounds, ₦36,000 in cash, and bags of rice.
“Our patrol team acted swiftly, but the suspects abandoned their loot and escaped,” SP Shiisu said, adding that efforts were underway to apprehend them.
He commended officers for their prompt actions and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies in combating crime.
