A residential building in the Kerdasa neighborhood of Cairo collapsed on Monday, leaving at least 10 people dead and eight others injured, with more feared trapped beneath the debris.
According to the AFP, emergency response teams rushed to the site, working to rescue those still missing, according to state media.
Eyewitnesses reported that the disaster was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion, though authorities have yet to confirm the cause.
“We heard a loud blast, and within seconds, the building came crashing down,” a resident told local media.
Civil defense personnel and ambulances were deployed immediately, while police launched an investigation into the incident.
“Rescue operations are ongoing, and we are doing everything possible to locate survivors,” an official said.
Cairo, a densely populated city of over 26 million people, has witnessed multiple building collapses in recent years, often attributed to aging structures and non-compliance with construction regulations.
Experts warn that lax enforcement of safety standards continues to put residents at risk.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the cause of the collapse, but investigations are underway.
