Zimbabwe’s captain, Marshal Munetsi, has commended his team’s resilience after they secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Nigeria in their FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Super Eagles took the lead 16 minutes from time through a powerful header by Victor Osimhen.
However, Zimbabwe’s substitute, Chawanda Chirewa, struck late to restore parity for the Warriors.
Reflecting on the match, Munetsi praised his teammates for their determination and hunger to make history.
“Obviously, Nigeria is a much bigger country in terms of football, but Zimbabwe also wants to make history,” Munetsi said post-match.
“Zimbabwe qualifying for the World Cup would probably be a more historical thing than Nigeria qualifying.
“That’s why we play with determination. All the guys want to do something historical and achieve something that has never been done by our country. This is something that gives us the energy to compete.”
Despite the result, Nigeria remains in fourth place with seven points from six games, while Zimbabwe sits at the bottom of the table with four points from the same number of matches.
