The proprietor of Aliyu Mustapha College in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, Mrs. Amada Pam, and a teacher identified as Mr. Morgan, have been arrested over the alleged brutalization of a student, Jafa Bashiru.
A security source, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the student was subjected to severe torture last Wednesday by the teacher. The incident was later reported to the police.
According to The PUNCH, the school’s proprietor had initially sought the intervention of Karewa Police Station to arrest the student’s father, who reportedly confronted Mr. Morgan after school hours.
However, when officers arrived and saw the student bleeding profusely, they declined to make the arrest.
The Public Relations Officer for Zone 3 Police Command, SP Yusuf Mohammed, confirmed the incident and assured that justice would be served.
“The father of the boy has given his statement, and we will ensure that due process is followed. The police cannot overlook such an act of brutality,” Mohammed stated in a telephone interview.
Meanwhile, a senior government official, who preferred not to be named, hinted that the school might face closure due to recurring negative reports.
“We have received several complaints about this institution, but this case stands out. A decisive action must be taken,” the official said.
The police have confirmed that both the proprietor and the teacher are expected to face charges in court on Thursday. SP Mohammed added that more details would be made available following further investigations.
“I can confirm that the case is under Zone 3’s jurisdiction, and the proprietor was invited for questioning on Wednesday,” he said.
However, when contacted later in the day, Mohammed was unable to verify whether the proprietor had honored the police invitation.
“I was out of the office all day, so I can’t confirm if she came in. But by Thursday, I will have full details,” he said.
