The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson Adenola, officially resumed duty on Wednesday as the 47th CP of the state command, succeeding Ayodele Sonubi, who recently retired.
A statement from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that Adenola was deployed to Oyo by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“CP Adenola brings a wealth of experience to the Oyo State Police Command,” Osifeso said. “He has served in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force, demonstrating a strong commitment to professionalism, intelligence, and operational excellence.”
Born on May 6, 1966, in Ijebu Ipari-Nla, Ogun State, Adenola joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
His early career saw him serve at Owerri Urban Divisional Police Headquarters before becoming the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command in 1995.
Throughout his career, he has held numerous key positions, including roles in the Lagos State Police Command, the Force Criminal Investigation Department and international assignments with the United Nations in Sierra Leone and Sudan.
Adenola’s experience spans various aspects of law enforcement, such as intelligence gathering, criminal investigations, and operational coordination.
Notable past positions include Divisional Traffic Officer at Sabo Division, Team Leader of the Surveillance Section at State CID Yaba, and Deputy Force Secretary in Abuja. He also served as Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police before his latest appointment.
“In his years of service, Adenola has been deeply involved in policing reforms, security risk management, and strategic leadership,” Osifeso added.
“His approach to law enforcement is grounded in discipline, respect for human rights, and community engagement.”
As he assumes leadership of the Oyo State Command, Adenola has outlined an eight-step action plan to enhance security in the state.
The strategy includes strict enforcement of laws, improved police discipline, advanced intelligence-driven policing, increased supervision, officer training, and stronger collaboration with community stakeholders.
“Our goal is to create a safer environment for all residents of Oyo State,” Adenola said. “We will prioritize discipline within the force, respect for the rule of law, and proactive crime prevention strategies through intelligence and technology-driven policing.”
The new CP holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s in Public Administration from Ogun State University and the University of Ilorin, respectively.
He has also attended multiple leadership and security management courses in Nigeria and abroad.
