The National Association of Nigerian Students has ushered in a new leadership, with Comrade Olusola Oladoja emerging as the National President following a successful national convention in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the Convention Committee, Suleiman Seriku, the election was concluded in the early hours of today at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja.
Anzaku Shedrack was elected as the General Secretary, while Usman Adamu secured the position of Senate President. Other key officials include Adeyemi Samson as the Public Relations Officer and Adejuwon Olatunji as the Assistant Secretary General, among others.
The statement highlighted the credibility of the election, describing it as one of the most peaceful and transparent in NANS’ history. Student representatives from various institutions nationwide actively participated, ensuring a democratic and widely accepted outcome.
In his victory speech, Comrade Olusola expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by Nigerian students, pledging to prioritize their welfare, educational advancement, and advocacy for better policies.
“This victory is not just for me but for every Nigerian student. We will work together to ensure that NANS remains a strong voice for students across the country,” he stated.
The newly elected executives also emphasized their commitment to unity, academic excellence, and meaningful engagement with stakeholders to drive positive change.
“My administration will focus on repositioning NANS to be truly student-centered, proactive, and impactful. We will foster unity among Nigerian students, engage relevant stakeholders in meaningful dialogue, and ensure that our advocacy translates into tangible results.
“Our top priorities will include education, student welfare, and the protection of students’ rights. We will push for policies that enhance the standard of learning and improve the quality of education across institutions.
“Additionally, we will focus on securing employment opportunities for graduates by partnering with the government and private sector to create viable job placements. We will also work on reforming and strengthening NELFUND to ensure that students have better access to education financing and post-graduation support.
“Alongside other key initiatives, we are committed to making NANS a true force for positive change in the lives of Nigerian students.”
The peaceful and well-organized election has been widely commended as a milestone in NANS’ democratic evolution.
Stakeholders, including former student leaders, lauded the process and urged the new administration to work in harmony for the collective good of Nigerian students.
